Castles of the Madonie: where they are and how to visit
The castles of the Madonie town by town: Castelbuono with its museum, the ruins of Geraci, Collesano, Caltavuturo, Isnello, Pollina and the Rocca di Cefalù.
Caltavuturo · 631 m a.s.l.
In Caltavuturo almost everything is within walking distance of the centre. Climb up to the ruins of Terravecchia for the castle, the Casale church and the view over the Imera valley. If you climb, you have the face of the Rocca di Sciara above the houses and about 50 routes on Cozzo Rosso at the Gole di Gazzara. If you prefer to be indoors, the Museo civico G. Guarnieri is open on weekday mornings. In August the village fills up for the International Folklore Festival and the Trail della Luna, a trail race with a night stage on the paths around. For a longer day, Sclafani Bagni is about ten kilometres away and Scillato, with its springs, about eight.
For Caltavuturo we have 14 guides, 1 trail and 1 itinerary.
