Are the lifts at Piano Battaglia open?

Lifts closed until the first good snow

For winter 2026-27 Palermo Energia has not yet announced openings or the new price list. It keeps running the lifts until 31 March 2027. In 2025-26 the lifts ran from 2 to 5 February and from 29 March, when after two days only the ski tow and the magic carpet stayed open.

Only the operator announces openings, often the evening before. Here you find the latest notice we have checked, with its date: we never report an opening the operator has not announced.

Can you drive up?

You can drive up from Petralia Sottana and Isnello, the SP119 is closed

As of 20 October 2026 there are no closures on the SP54 from Petralia Sottana or on the SP9 from Isnello and Piano Zucchi. The SP119 from Polizzi Generosa has been closed since 6 February 2026 because of a landslide near Portella Colla, and we have found no news of it reopening: from Polizzi you go via Petralia Sottana. With snow or ice you need winter tyres or chains on board.

Webcams at Piano Battaglia

These webcams belong to private owners and associations, not to the lift operator or a public body. They can be offline or lag behind.

Where the snow data comes from

Snow on the ground, forecast snowfall, freezing level, temperatures and wind come from Open-Meteo, a service that gathers the weather models of national weather services. They are estimates calculated for the altitude of each point: Pizzo Carbonara, Piano Battaglia, Portella Colla and Piano Zucchi.

They are not measurements. The model works over an area larger than the plateau and does not see snow piled up by the wind or slopes the sun has already cleared. That is why you will find the webcams next to the numbers.

How often the page is updated

Every morning we download the forecasts and rebuild the page. When you open it, your browser asks Open-Meteo again and the time at the top changes: that is the time of the data you are looking at.

We check the lift status on the Palermo Energia page every week from mid-November to mid-April, and again whenever there is news. If the last check is more than 7 days old, the Ski lifts box says so.

How much snow does Piano Battaglia usually get?

Not much, and in bursts. The Città Metropolitana di Palermo, which owns the lifts, estimates 6-8 weeks of snow a year on the plateau. And the lifts listed in the concession tender include nothing for artificial snow.

Winter 2025-26 shows it well: the lifts opened on 2 February, overnight rain ruined the runs and by the 6th they were closed. They reopened on 29 March. So one snowfall is not enough: what counts is how long it lasts.

Frequently asked questions

Is there snow at Piano Battaglia today?
The first box on this page tells you: the snow on the ground estimated by the Open-Meteo model, updated every morning and again when you open the page. It is an estimate for the height of the plateau, not a measurement. To see the real snow, look at the three private webcams linked further down.
Are the Piano Battaglia ski lifts open?
The status is in the Ski lifts box, with the date we last checked the notices of Palermo Energia, the operator. Only the operator announces openings, often the evening before. As of 20 October 2026 there is no opening date for winter 2026-27: the lifts only start when there is enough snow.
Will it snow at Piano Battaglia in the next few days?
The 7-day summary gives, for each day, the centimetres of new snow forecast, the temperatures and the gusts. The further away the day, the less certain the forecast: check again the evening before you leave. When the freezing level drops below the height of the plateau, around 1,600 m, rain is more likely to turn into snow.
Can you drive up to Piano Battaglia?
Two roads are open: the SP54 from Petralia Sottana and the SP9 from Isnello, which passes Piano Zucchi and joins the SP54. The SP119 from Polizzi Generosa has been closed by a landslide since 6 February 2026. Before you leave, check the alerts on this page and the page on roads in the Madonie.
Do you need snow chains to get to Piano Battaglia?
With snow or ice you need winter tyres fitted or chains on board, and it is best to put them on before the snowy stretch. On the state roads the rule is set each year by an ANAS order: in 2025-26 it applied on the SS120, SS286 and SS643 from 1 December to 31 March. The order for 2026-27 had not been issued by 20 October.
Are there webcams at Piano Battaglia?
We know of three, all private: SkylineWebcams on the Madonna delle Nevi church, the webcam of the Meteopalermo association with its weather station, and the Weather Sicily panorama of Monte Mufara. None belongs to the lift operator or a public body, so they can stay offline even for days.
Why doesn't the snow shown match what I find?
Because it comes from a weather model, calculated over an area larger than the plateau and corrected for altitude. It does not see the wind piling snow into hollows, the sun melting it on south-facing slopes or the grooming machines on the runs. Use it as a guide and compare it with the webcams.
Where can you stay near Piano Battaglia?
Further down you will find places to stay within 5 km of Piano Battaglia, Pizzo Carbonara, Portella Colla and Piano Zucchi, sorted by distance and with a contact so you can ask whether they are open. The guide to mountain huts and where to stay in winter lists the ones up in the mountains.
