Fifty years of the festival

In 2026 the Sagra dell’Ulivo turns fifty, and the programme celebrates with an exhibition, a public meeting on the festival’s history and an anniversary cake. At Saturday’s band gathering, the Apollonia band of Pollina and Finale plays alongside Santa Cecilia from Cefalù, Don Ciccio Cirrincione from Campofelice and G. Verdi from Santo Stefano di Camastra.

As in 2025, schools are involved, with an art contest for pupils, alongside the local folk group I Saracini and Sunday Mass with the blessing of olive saplings.

What to eat

Olive cunzate, olives seasoned the traditional way, are the symbol of the festival, handed out free on Sunday at 1 pm. At the Parco Urbano stalls you can eat on Saturday evening and on Sunday at lunch and dinner.

In 2025, at the 49th edition, the town council offered free pasta with olive sauce, bread with oil and olives and a glass of wine, and there was a children’s walk in the Parco di Serradaino with tastings of bread, olives and crastu olive oil (Comune di Pollina). If you’re interested in olive oil and local produce, read our guide to Madonie food.

Practical tips

Finale is Pollina’s seaside hamlet; from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway take the Pollina-Castelbuono exit. Distances are in our guide to getting to the Madonie by car. Sources don’t list dedicated car parks: arrive early on Sunday, the busiest day.

For a bed, see where to stay in Pollina; for food, where to eat in Pollina. In November check the Pollina weather: the parade and stalls are outdoors.

If you’re touring the Madonie the same weekend, Isnello hosts Sapori d’Autunno on 7 and 8 November. For the rest of the municipality there’s the Pollina page, and for other festivals the Madonie food festival calendar and the upcoming events page.

Frequently asked questions

When is the 2026 Sagra dell'Ulivo?
The 50th Sagra dell'Ulivo takes place in Finale di Pollina from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026. Friday is devoted to the exhibition and the festival's history, Saturday and Sunday to the food stalls at the Parco Urbano, music and the folk parade.
Are the olive cunzate free?
In the 2026 programme the free handout of olive cunzate (seasoned olives) is set for Sunday 8 November at 1 pm at the Parco Urbano. In 2025 there was a free tasting of pasta with olive sauce, bread with oil and olives and a glass of wine. The food stalls, on the other hand, charge.
When are the food stalls open?
In 2026 the food stalls at the Parco Urbano are open on Saturday for dinner, from 5 pm, and on Sunday for both lunch and dinner, from noon. There are no stalls on Friday: the day is devoted to the schools, the photo exhibition and the public meeting.
What is the world's longest filoncino?
It's the extra-long loaf made by the Panificio Nicolosi bakery, one of Sunday's most awaited moments. In 2026 it's scheduled for 6 pm at the Parco Urbano, together with the Torta del Cinquantenario cake for the festival's fiftieth anniversary. It was also there in 2025, in Piazzale Torre.
Why are olive saplings given to newborns?
It's a Sunday ritual: during Mass in the church of Maria SS. della Lettera, in the presence of local officials, olive saplings are blessed and given to the village's newborns. In 2025 the blessing involved a sapling of leucolea, the white olive.
How do I book the Celsito visit?
The guided visit "Alla scoperta dei monumenti della natura" to Celsito, on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 10 am, is booked through the online form indicated by the town of Pollina, which posts details on its Facebook page. It is run with the regional department for Rural and Territorial Development.
